NCR Corp. has introduced a high-volume cash dispenser for the bank-branded off-premises ATM market.
NCR, which is based in Duluth, Ga., collaborated with Cardtronics Inc., the world's largest independent ATM deployer (IAD) based on machines owned and operated, to develop the SelfServ 16 cash dispenser. The Houston-based IAD has purchased a "significant," but undisclosed number of the SelfServ 16 cash dispensers for deployment around the world. In addition to the United States, Cardtronics operates in the United Kingdom, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
The SelfServ 16, which was on display at last week's ATM Industry Association conference and expo, is the smallest cash dispenser in SelfServ line, which was first introduced in 2008. The SelfServ 16's transaction volume can be very big.
The machine can perform 3,000 or more monthly transactions, said Bob Tramontano, NCR vice president of Global Field Marketing. As a result, the SelfServ 16 is ideal for deployment as a bank-branded ATM deployed in supermarkets, office buildings, convenience stores and other off-premises locations. The machine also can handle as few as 500 transactions per month.
"Our financial institution partners look to our ATM network to deliver convenience and service to the consumers they serve," said Mike Clinard, Cardtronics president of Global Services. "We are pleased to work closely with NCR to help them design an ATM for the off-premise market."
Deployment of off-premises ATMs for banks and other financial institutions is an important market for Cardtronics. In the fourth-quarter, which ended Dec. 31, 2010, the IAD reported $21.6 million in revenues from bank branding and surcharge-free networks compared with $17.9 million during the same three-month period in 2009.
For 2010, Cardtronics reported $81.6 million in revenues from bank branding and surcharge-free networks compared with $67.8 million for the year ended Dec. 31, 2009.
Deployment of ATMs in off-premises locations is growing because financial institutions want to extend their brands' presence.
"Banks and credit unions are looking for cost-effective ways to extend their brand and meet their customer outside the branch environment," said Michael O'Laughlin, senior vice president of NCR Financial Services. "The NCR SelfServ 16 is a perfect off-premise complement to a bank's ATM network."
The machine features a 2,200 note cassette, a 15-inch color screen. The SelfServ has a recessed keypad. Cardholders can stand in front of the keyboard, using their bodies to easily block prying eyes in the queue. The ATM is also compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. In addition, the SelfServ 16 also reduces energy consumption compared with older ATMs.
NCR is the world's largest ATM manufacturer based on annual shipments.
