Allpoint Network's partnership with Australian ATM ISO Customers Limited is intended to attract more cardholders for Customers, which has reported a drop in cash withdrawals.
"Customers wants to drive more transaction volume," Allpoint president Ben Psillas said at the BAI Retail Delivery 2010 Conference in Las Vegas.
Customers, which owns more than 5,600 ATMs, deploys machines in off-premises locations, including retail shops. Fewer cardholders are shopping because of the recession, company officials say. As a result, Customers reported a drop in transaction volume. The ATM ISO discussed the decline in transaction volume in its 2010 annual report for the fiscal year ended in June. Customers is Australia's largest ATM ISO.
Allpoint and Customers on Monday announced they had signed a partnership agreement.
The deal between the two companies adds nearly 6,000 ATMs to Allpoint Network. Bethesda, Md.-based Allpoint now operates more than 40,000 surcharge-free ATMs worldwide. In addition to Australia, Allpoint provides surcharge-free ATM access to cardholders in the United States, the United Kingdom and Puerto Rico.
Psillas hinted that Allpoint is close to signing another deal with an ATM network based in another foreign country. He, however, declined to provide additional information about a possible agreement.
Allpoint's contract with Customers helps the company distinguish itself from its competitors, Psillas says. Customers' cardholders will have surcharge-free ATM access to Australian-based and United States-based banks that are members of Allpoint's network, Psillas says.
Cardtronics Inc., a Houston-based ATM ISO, owns Allpoint.
