Correction to the article:
The European Union includes 27 member states but 11 member states do not belong to the eurozone.

There are a number of substantial errors in this article:
1. The ECB's estimate of the number of ATMs in the EU is nearly 8% higher than the real number as shown by RBR's latest data (394.3k), with major overestimates applying to countries such as Belgium and Germany.
2. The EU consists of 27 not 16 member states! However, there are 16 states that use the euro as their common currency.
3. The number of cashless payments in the EU in 2009 was 82 billion (not $82 billion), which was a 4.2% increase on the 79 billion (not $78 billion) in 2008 (based upon ECB data).
4. Card payments represented 38% of cashless payments in 2009, not 40%
