Mitek, Fiserv partner on mobile phone deposits

Mitek Systems Inc. has partnered with Fiserv Inc. to offer a service that enables bank customers to deposit checks from their camera-equipped smartphones.
Fiserv, a Brookfield, Wis.-based payments processor for banks and credit unions, will market Mitek Systems’ Mobile Deposit technology to Fiserv’s financial institution customers, said Susan Huss, a spokesperson for Mitek, which is based in San Diego.
Mobile Deposit photographs the front and back of a check before sending the check’s image to the smartphone owner’s account. Mobile Deposit works with the iPhone, BlackBerry and other mobile devices that are on the Android and Windows Mobile platforms.
Mitek and Fiserv announced their agreement days after the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted Mitek a patent for Mobile Deposit.
