MIRAMAR, Fla. -- Maritime Telecommunications Network Inc. has signed a five-year agreement with Festival Cruises Inc. to equip its new European Vision and European Dream cruise ships with telecommunications equipment that includes ATMs.
MTN will provide onboard telecommunications services via C-band service, providing voice, fax and data capabilities. In addition to supplying ATMs, MTN's technology solution includes Internet access, weather news, ocean routes and phone cards.
"The technology provided by MTN will further enhance safety, operational efficiency and the level of service for passengers onboard Festival's new vessels," said Theodore Kontes, Festival's vice chairman for technical and operations.
Festival Cruises was the first pan-European cruise line. It currently owns and operates a fleet of three cruise ships. The company is investing $1.2 billion in four ships to be constructed in France by Chantiers de l'Atlantique, the same designers and shipyard responsible for its Mistral cruise ship.
The European Vision and European Dream, the first two of the four new ships, will be similar to Mistral but larger, with 750 cabins, a greater number of suites with private balconies and some additional advanced features.
The European Vision and European Dream are scheduled for delivery in 2001 and 2002.
