ST. GEORGE, Utah -- A stream of $20 bills rained down on a St. George street after an ATM service technician rushed off to make a deposit at a bank in neighboring Washington City without realizing he had left a bag filled with cash on a tool box in the back of his pickup truck.
The technician, an employee of Boise, Idaho-based Respond Inc., had placed the cash there after dropping a cassette filled with $20 bills, which broke open.
According to a report in the Salt Lake Tribune, several motorists noticed the flying bills and snatched up about $3,000, which was turned over to police.
The technician told police that he didn't miss the money until he had reached the bank. Police said they believe the technician's explanation and would not investigate the matter any further.
All but a few hundred dollars was recovered, said Cliff Grossman, director of safety and risk management for Respond Inc. "Thank God [St. George] is such an honest community," he said. "This doesn't happen very often, but when it does, I'm glad there are honest people around."
