ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Triton Systems, a wholly-owned operating company of Dover Corporation says it will make the audio port for visually impaired ATM users a standard feature on its new 9700 Series.
Developed in consultation with members of the disabled community and compliant with existing and proposed Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations, the Triton 9700 Series ATM features performs private audio transactions using text-to-speech synthesis. No changes will be required of any currently certified Triton processor to support audio-guided transactions.
Attendees of this week's BAI Retail Delivery Conference Dec. 11-13 can see both the Triton 9700 and the Triton 9800 in booth 3604.
The Department of Justice is expected next year to publish new ADA regulations mandating ATM capabilities to meet the needs of the visually impaired. One of the most significant new requirements is that "machines shall provide visual and audible instructions for operation."
"Though the new ADA regulations are still in development, Triton believes it's important to anticipate the needs of ATM owners and customers," said Dr. Ernest Burdette, president and chief executive officer of Triton. "We've designed the 9700 to meet the coming regulations and to set a new standard in the mid-tier off-premise ATM market."
According to a Triton news release, the 9700 incorporates, as standard, many features available only as options on previous generation ATMs, including four extra built-in serial ports for easy in-the-field expansion, two megabytes of memory and a 256-color transaction screen that supports both text and graphics.
