After agreeing last year with Chinatrust Commercial Bank and Grand Commercial Bank to set up ATMs in convenience stores, 7-Eleven began its search for an ATM supplier capable of meeting its requirements for compact, low-energy and high-performance ATMs. The search led to Wincor Nixdorf, which tailored ProCash 1500 to meet 7-Eleven's needs. The agreement, according to Chen Ruei-Tang, represents a huge step in the strategy of the President Chain Store Corp. to create a global financial services network and e-commerce platform. ProCash 1500 is not only the smallest ATM to be introduced in Taiwan; it also consumes a third less power than conventional ATMs. Moreover, the cash dispensers offer a high level of convenience thanks to their 15-inch touch screens and user-friendly interfaces. Around-the-clock ATM availability is provided by the monitoring system, ProView, which immediately alerts technical staff to problems and thus ensures a high level of customer service. The web-based ProClassic application, running on the Windows NT operating system, will support e-commerce transactions in the future.
For Chinatrust Commercial Bank, the ATM cooperation with 7-Eleven is an opportunity to extend its financial footprint to customers across the country and offer service around the clock, according to Lo Lien-Fu. He expects the user-friendly terminals to catch on quickly with consumers.
In the United States and Japan, convenience store banking has already become a thriving business, with many banks now collaborating with convenience stores, GCB's Peng Yu-Fa pointed out. The cooperation between his bank, 7-Eleven and Chinatrust represents a milestone in the development of financial services in Taiwan, he noted.
ProCash 1500 is specially designed for use in off-premise locations. The ATM provides core services, such as cash withdrawals, transfers, balance inquiry, cash debit and change PIN functions. In the second stage, ProCash 1500 will offer value-added services, such as utilities fee payment and credit loan services.
