NAMIBIA, South Africa -- Standard Bank Namibia will replace its fleet of 60 ATMs with terminals from Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE: DBD). The agreement, which includes installation and service of the machines, is Diebold's first in this sub-Saharan African country.
Mark Walsh, manager, business development systems at Standard Bank Namibia, said, "Diebold provides new technology that allows our network to communicate with other networks in our banking family. In addition, they have built a strong service reputation with Standard Bank of South Africa for increasing ATM availability. Our contract includes a service agreement, which we believe will improve our ATM up-time."
Three teams consisting of a Diebold service engineer and two Standard Bank Namibia staff were assigned to handle the entire installation, which includes removing the existing ATM, replacing it with a new Diebold advanced-function ATM and surround, and testing the terminal.
Walsh said that Standard Bank Namibia had received positive feedback from customers regarding the new equipment. "Our customers have told us that they think the ATMs are much faster and more user-friendly," he said. "They have helped boost the image of the bank."
