LONDON -- NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) says it will offer Microsoft Windows XP to its self- service customers when the new operating system is introduced next month.
According to an NCR news release, some of its customers have already migrated from the traditional OS/2 operating system to NCR's APTRA suite of self-service software, which is currently based on Windows NT. NCR sees moving forward with Windows XP as a natural progression to self-service software developments, according to the release.
Windows XP is scheduled for release on Oct. 25.
"Windows XP is the next step in our drive to enhance the consumer experience," said Jim Piggot, software and services vice president at NCR's Financial Solutions Division. "The graphical and digital enhancements in XP, coupled with the significantly enhanced development capability and security, meet all our requirements regarding consumer and corporate security, reliability and usability."
Piggot added, "Today, visual stimulation is everywhere -- cable TV, game consoles, electronic billboards. We even have movie stars that are computer-engineered images. ATMs are still the most widely used financial channel, and we believe they should present consumers with a similar stimulating user experience."
