LONDON -- The ATM Industry Association, in association with ATMmarketplace.com, is launching three new international ATM Security Industry Awards this year: for ATM Security Technology, ATM Security Best Practice and Best Contribution to ATM Crime Reduction and Prevention.

According to ATMIA International Director Mike Lee, the awards will provide recognition for exceptional achievements in the push to migrate crime and fraud out of the ATM industry -- especially important, he said, at a time when criminal ATM activity is on the increase in many regions of the world and carried out in some cases by organized gangs.

After consultation with Alan Townsend, crime prevention coordinator at New Scotland Yard, ATMIA decided on a small number of awards to keep them significant, with the focus on making them high-profile, sought-after prizes.

The annual awards will be presented at "ATM Sec 2," ATMIA's second annual ATM security conference, which takes place at the International Suite of the world-famous football club, Manchester United, England, on April 17-18.

The awards are for outstanding achievements in the time period 2001-2002. "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

All aspects of ATM security are considered: physical security, cash security, data and electronic security, network security and card security.

Companies and individuals are encouraged to submit both recommendations and applications for these awards. All entrants will be evaluated by an international panel of judges. There is no cost involved.

While companies may self nominate, Lee said, "ATMIA would like to encourage companies and individuals within the ATM security sector to submit recommendations for work done by their peers, too -- to honor work done for the good of the industry and to the detriment of ATM criminals and fraudsters."

Submissions should be 500-1000 words and give the reasons why a company or individual should be considered worthy of recognition for exceptional work in the three fields covered by the awards.

All submissions should reach Mike Lee, International Director of ATMIA, by Friday, March 29. Only the names of the winners will be made public. Send submissions or inquiries to mikelee@atmiaeurope.com.
