PITTSBURGH - National City Bank has raised its surcharge to $2 at a dozen western Pennsylvania ATMs, from its previous level of $1.50.

Pittsburgh television station WTAE reported that National City called the fee hike a pilot program being undertaken to gauge the reaction of the market. A bank spokesman said money raised through the increase will be used to support its ATM network and changes in technology.

Another area bank, Mellon Bank, raised its surcharge for non-customers to $1.75 in January.
