SANBORNTON, N.H. -- New Hampshire Rep. Tom Salatiello is asking his state's Attorney General to investigate the business practices of Credit Card Center, according to the Laconia (N.H.) Citizen.
Salatiello is making the request on behalf of Bernard Salvador, owner of the Sanbornton General Store. Salvador said his last monthly check from CCC, for $300, bounced and he's been unable to contact anyone at the company.
Salvador said that when he reached a supervisor at CCC's office in Littleton, N.H., she told him her paychecks also had bounced. When he attempted to call company headquarters in Philadelphia, he got a voice message asking him to leave a message with the operator, followed by another message stating that an operator was no longer available.
Salvador leased the machine from Newcourt Financial, a California company. He has three years remaining on the lease, according to the Laconia Citizen.
He told the Citizen that he no longer fills the machine with cash and has put an "out of order" sign on it.
State Banking Commissioner Roland Roberge told the newspaper that the ATM industry is "essentially an unregulated industry" and "there is no oversight over operations of machines."
