ATLANTA - Real-Time Kiosks, a provider of self-service financial transaction kiosks for credit unions, said its biometrically-enabled kiosks are gaining in popularity throughout the country, with sales increases of 300 percent in 2000.
The company said it is installing four self-service biometric kiosks per month, and that it sold systems to nine new credit union customers in the last quarter.
The kiosks use a fingerprint scanner to identify users, eliminating the need for ATM cards and Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), and increasing the security of transactions. The system also snaps a digital photo of each transaction. Real-Time Kiosks, a division of Virginia-based Real-Time Data Management Services, Inc., claims its systems virtually eliminates ATM fraud.
The system, first installed at credit unions in St. Paul, Minn. and White Plains, N.Y., also photographs deposits made at the machines and includes them in receipts given to customers.
The biometric technology, provided by Remdond, Wash.-based SAFLINK Corp., is also being used at teller stations for internal teller log-on, cash drawer management and management approval of high-dollar transactions.
