CHICAGO -- It's safe to say that Marcus Henderson won't win an award as "Grandson of the Year." The 22-year-old Chicago man was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, armed robbery and aggravated kidnapping after allegedly forcing his grandmother at gunpoint to drive to ATMs to withdraw cash.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Henderson put a nylon stocking over his face to hide his identity from his 68-year-old grandmother, Minnie Johnson, before he robbed her. Despite the disguise, he was apprehended after a shootout with police that left his grandmother and an officer wounded.
Henderson gave a videotaped confession, and police have video of him holding a gun to his grandmother's head at an ATM.
A witness who saw a gunman ordering a woman into a car near an ATM at about 3 a.m. on Nov. 24 called police, who traced the plate. When police went to Johnson's apartment, Henderson opened fire from behind his grandmother, wounding officer Kevin Connors.
Connors was released from an area hospital after being been treated for wounds in his shoulder and leg. Johnson was in fair condition at Cook County Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
