TOKYO -- According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Nippon Express Co. will cooperate with 25 industrial waste treatment companies to build a nationwide network for recycling industrial machinery, including ATMs.
As early as next week, Japan's leading transport firm will begin collecting junked vending machines, ATMs and point-of-sales terminals and carrying them to processing plants; it will also bill owners on behalf of the waste treatment companies.
Nippon Express forecasts initial-year billings from the service at 2-3 billion yen, and hopes for annual revenue of 5 billion yen within three years.
Specialists in the recovery/disposal of mercury, CFCs, waste plastic and other materials will undertake recycling efforts at 39 plants nationwide. The company plans to set up at least one facility in each prefecture to cope with increasing volumes of discarded hardware, sources added.
