NCR Japan subsidiary accepts capital from other manufacturers

TOKYO -- ATM Japan Ltd, a wholly-owned unit of NCR Japan Ltd., will accept capital infusions from NEC Corp., Omron Corp., Oki Electric Industry Co. and other firms so it can offer a comprehensive repair and maintenance service for ATMs, according to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.

Accepting capital infusion from rival manufacturers will allow ATM Japan to offer services regardless of machine make. It hopes to sell packages to banks that include monitoring, operation and maintenance of the machines. As banks cut back on ATM investment, manufacturers are turning to system management to supplement their income.

Established in November with startup capital of 10 million yen, ATM Japan began operations dealing with sales and repair services for the parent's equipment. The company has since increased its equity capital to 480 million yen through a third-party share allocation.

NEC, Oki, and Omron, as well as four other companies, including security service firms such as Sogo Keibi Hosho Co. and Central Security Patrols Co., own a combined 35 percent stake in ATM Japan, each putting up 5 percent. NCR Japan and employees of ATM Japan hold a combined 65 percent share.
