FLUSHING, NEW YORK -- PT-1 Communications is shipping its PT-1 7310 POS terminal, which it claims is a revolutionary PIN distribution system for delivering a range of prepaid telecommunication services at the retail level. PT-1 will provide qualified retailers with a free electronic distribution terminal for each store.
PT-1, the largest prepaid calling card company in the US, says that in return for getting customers to prepay their telephone time, it offers very competitive rates, especially in the calling card marketplace.
According to PT-1, retailers can use the terminal to simultaneously offer prepaid cards as well as other prepaid products from a single device.
The electronic PIN distribution system is a small, off-line terminal that communicates daily with PT-1 computers at headquarters in New York, to request the replenishment of new calling card PIN's and other prepaid product inventory sold that day.
"The electronic PIN distribution concept allows chain store retailers to manufacture other prepaid products on the spot. In the future, products such as prepaid cellular, prepaid paging and prepaid Internet could thus be offered by retailers with complete, `shrink-proof' control and zero inventory investment," said Paul Gregory, the firm's vice president.
According to Gregory, a retailer will only pay for prepaid products sold. "Our typical PT-1 retailer can sell over $350 a week in phone cards. With this new system, they can realize an immediate sales boost of 20 percent to 25 percent, simply by eliminating any possible out of stock conditions," he said.
As part of the system, PT-1 provides retailers with their own Web page to access, monitor, and manage daily store sales. The company says it expects to place more than 1,500 terminals in the next several months.
