DENVER -- The 7-Eleven convenience store chain will remove about 350 ATMs owned by financial institutions this summer and replace them with machines owned by American Express.
The 7-Eleven chain contract with American Express to provide ATMs to its stores in Colorado and Utah is an expansion of a national strategy to place Amex ATMs in most of its stores.
"The ATMs that American Express already owned and operated are in 85 percent of 7-Eleven stores nationwide," according to Dana Manley, marketing and communications manager for 7-Eleven.
"It's part of an expansion of our partnership with 7-11," said Amex spokesperson Joanne Fisher. "It's also very much a part of our strategy to put ATMs in high-traffic, retail locations."
