PALATINE, Ill. -- The Business, Finance and Budget Committee has supported a two-year contract for an ATM in the village's new downtown train station, despite a councilman's concerns over Harris Bank's proposal to charge a $1.50 transaction fee for non-bank customers, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.
"I have a problem with certain people getting free service while other people don't on government property," Councilman Jack Wagner said during a committee presentation.
Kenneth Bonder, the village's chief financial officer, said the bank would be unlikely to waive its fees.
Under the proposal, the village would receive revenue from the transaction fees after 700 monthly transactions. The village would get 50 cents per transaction from 701 to 1,200 and 60 cents per transaction between 1,201 and 2,000.
Officials said they asked 10 banks to compete for the contract, but only Harris responded.
The Village Council is expected to vote on the matter on March 25, according to the Tribune.
