CANTON, Ohio -- Within hours after Diebold named its new chief executive officer last week, the company lost Chief Financial Officer Gerald Morris.
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, Morris left the company under unexplained circumstances shortly after Diebold announced that former Emerson Electric Co. executive Walden O'Dell would succeed Robert W. Mahoney as CEO. O'Dell will also become board chairman when Mahoney retires in April.
Diebold did not link the two issues. While declining to explain Morris' sudden departure, a company spokesman said there were no allegations of financial impropriety by Morris, according to the Beacon Journal.
Morris, who joined Diebold in 1991, was a senior vice president. His duties will be assumed by Diebold Vice President and Corporate Controller Robert L. Stockamp until a permanent replacement is named.
