ONTARIO, Calif. -- Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union (EFFCU), with more than 800 South Florida companies among its membership, has joined CO-OP network, the largest network of credit union ATMs in the country.
According to a news release, the agreement substantially expands the CO-OP network ATM presence in the Southeast, and provides nationwide surcharge-free ATM access for EFFCU's 160,000 members.
According to Sharon St. Clair, Eastern Financial's assistant vice president/senior manager of Information Technology, CO-OP membership is a key benefit to Eastern Financial because the credit union was originally created for Eastern Airlines employees and their families, which means its membership is spread across the United States.
Founded in 1937 by 10 Eastern Airlines employees, Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union (formerly Eastern Airlines Employees Credit Union) has $1.2 billion in assets and is ranked among the 25 largest credit unions in the nation.
The Southeast is an area targeted for expansion by the CO-OP network. In February, CO-OP hired 23-year EFT industry Jack Norris as its manager of business development and sales for the southern region of the United States.
"EFFCU, with its large influence in Florida, is a great addition to our existing credit union base," said CO-OP network President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Rose.
