PALO ALTO, Calif. -- HP (NYSE:HPQ), formerly known as Hewlett Packard, has introduced three Atalla Network Security Processors (NSPs), a series of computers it says can handle processing ATM transactions encrypted with the Triple DES algorithm.
Three different models are designed to meet the different transaction volume demands of financial institutions and transaction processors, according to a news release.
HP also has introduced key block technology from Atalla designed to safeguard keys while they are in transit or when stored on an application host system. The software offers optional support for remote ATM key loading.
Ken Justice, Diebold's vice president of global product marketing and management, said the new Atalla processors and key block technology will support the remote key transport capability available soon for Diebold ATMs, which will eliminate the need for personnel to visit each machine to manually load DES keys.
"Together, we are working to simplify Triple DES key loading while strengthening end-to-end security for financial institutions," Justice said in a news release.
According to the release, the Atalla products also will provide a cost-effective migration path to stronger future security mechanisms, such as the AES (Advanced Encryption Standard).
The HP Atalla NSP series will be available on June 4.
