LONDON -- Mobile operator Vodafone was swamped with complaints over its method of recouping money from roaming Ready to Go customers after its system broke down, according to a report in online.ie.
A malfunction in the British company's system meant hundreds of Ready to Go customers made calls from abroad and were not charged for them on their pre-paid card. However, when the customers went to recharge their phones at ATMs, Vodafone deducted the cost of the previously uncharged calls from the new credit.
Customers were not informed of the malfunction or that Vodafone would recoup the charges at a later date. They have also been unable to determine how much money they still owe the company, as the company said it does not reveal credit balance details for the Ready to Go service.
The complaints hit the firm just a week after it launched a new service allowing its pre-pay customers to top up their pre-paid mobiles abroad.
