AMARILLO, Texas -- Houston-based ATM manufacturer Tidel Technologies is using an enhanced encryption procedure developed by transaction processor Core Data to offer its distributors a simple and cost-effective way to meet mandatory ATM network encryption standards.
Using the procedure, Tidel will inject unique encryption keys into each ATM at a central facility prior to shipping. Upon installation, Core Data will automatically recognize the ATM, register its encryption keys and begin processing transactions. The procedure virtually eliminates field installers and technicians from the cryptographic process, according to a news release. (See related story Keeping the keys unique)
"Security requirements are tightening in the EFT industry. By teaming with hardware manufacturers like Tidel we are able to provide an easy, safe and cost-efficient method for our customers to stay on top of network compliance issues which will ultimately help to fight fraudulent practices," said Keevin Clark, executive vice president of Core Data, in a news release.
"Managing unique encryption keys is complicated and expensive when handled during the installation process. By handling them in a production environment, we can be more cost effective and ensure security," said Flynt Moreland, senior vice president of Tidel, in the release.
Fremont, Calif.-based ATM manufacturer Tranax Technologies also participates in Core Data's encryption program.
