INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Police are looking for Danny Roland, a 42-year-old Indianapolis man they believe drove through a gas station wall on Oct. 3 in a failed attempt to steal an ATM.
According to a report on Indianapolis' WRTV, authorities say they believe Roland drove a large vehicle into a closed Speedway gas station around 3:30 a.m.
Police believe whoever plowed into the building intended to tow away the store's ATM with the vehicle, but was scared away by a fire extinguisher.
"One of the fire extinguishers blew up, and he probably thought the building was on fire and he took off," detective James Hornaday of the Marion County Sheriff's Department told WRTV.
Police said they suspect Roland because he is wanted in similar theft attempts. Police said surveillance video in July showed Roland crashing a sport utility vehicle into an Indianapolis Speedway station, then strapping an ATM to the vehicle and pulling it out of the station.
Roland is wanted in 10 thefts or attempted thefts of ATMs in the past three months.
Hornaday told WRTV that Roland is known to frequent karaoke in bars on the city's south side.
