PITTSBURGH, Penn. -- PNC Bank has struck a deal with Penn State University to offer students and faculty ID cards that also function as ATM/debit cards, according to a report in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The deal is part of PNC's campaign to recruit young customers. The bank hopes customers will be lured by the convenience of carrying one card for both banking and campus-related activities.

PNC, Pennsylvania's largest bank, has a similar alliance with six other schools across the state, including the University of Pittsburgh since 2000 and Duquesne University since 1996.
The deal with Penn State, which has about 73,000 students and 20,000 faculty and staff, is the largest to date. The ID cards can be linked to checking, savings or money market accounts.
As part of the agreement, PNC will install ATMs at 11 of Penn State's nearly two dozen branch campuses and boost the number of ATMs at the university's main campus in University Park from six to 10. The bank is considering installing ATMs at the remainder of the campuses as well, a PNC spokesman told the Post-Gazette.
