WESTON, Fla. -- Thales e-Security, leading providers of cryptographic processors to the global card transaction processing marketplace, has launched a new generation of high-speed host security modules (HSM).
Its new HSM 8000 line will offer two performance levels: a high-speed version offering 800 transactions per second for high-end users; and a standard model offering 220 transactions per second, based on triple-DES PIN translations.
This new generation of HSM offers a flexible solution to card transaction processing by providing 10/100 Ethernet, Asynchronous and Systems Network Architecture (SNA) connectivity as standard. In addition, a high-bandwidth, optical fibre Enterprise System Connection (ESCON) option is available to meet the demands of IBM mainframe environments.
"The new HSM 8000 offers our customers the flexibility of the proven HSM 7000 range with improved price/performance options on an independently approved platform," Cynthia Provin, president of Thales e-Security, Inc., Americas, said in a release. "To put this into perspective, even the largest ATM and EFTPOS acquiring networks in the world rarely required more than 750 PIN translations per second. Therefore, by supporting in excess of 800 transactions per second in a single device, the HSM 8000 is reducing the cost of ownership of such specialist security devices."
* At the BAI Retail Delivery Show, held Nov. 6-8 in Atlanta, Thales e-Security announced the publication of a free EMV migration guide available for download from its Web site.
Titled, "EMV -- Easy Migration Guide," was produced by Thales e-Security in conjunction with several companies including ACI, Aconite, APSCA, Datacard, Giesecke & Devrient, Gemplus, GlobalPlatform, Hitachi, JCB, Mosaic, NCR, Oberthur, SchlumbergerSema and Thales e-Transactions.
In a release, Paul Jackson, Thales e-Security's marketing director, said the "new guide will help financial payment card issuers and acquirers understand the changes they need to make when migrating to the more secure chip technology."
