HOUSTON -- Cardtronics has appointed Jack Antonini, a former executive vice president at First Union Corporation, as its president and chief executive officer, effective immediately.
Ralph Clinard, who founded the company in 1989 after retiring from a 29-year career at Exxon, will enjoy his second retirement from day-to-day operations, but he will continue to serve on the company's board of directors.
According to a news release, Antonini brings more than 29 years of banking and financial services experience to Cardtronics. Most recently, he served as chairman/president and chief executive of Austin, Texas-based Globeset, Inc., a supplier of secure e-payment infrastructure services and products, with customers such as Verizon Wireless and Southwestern Bell.
Prior to that, Antonini was executive vice president of consumer banking at First Union Corporation of Charlotte, N.C., the sixth-largest bank in the U.S. with 2001 revenues of $22 billion. He also served as vice chairman and chief financial officer of Dallas-based First USA Bank, N.A., one of the largest issuers of Visa and MasterCard credit cards in the U.S., with almost 52 million cardholders, and as vice chairman and chief executive of San Antonio, Texas-based USAA Federal Savings Bank, a savings institution with more than $10 billion in assets.
"(Antonini's) banking connections and his background, as well as his familiarity with the ATM industry and the consumer-oriented financial services industry, will help ensure that Cardtronics continues to provide outstanding products and services to our customers," said Clinard in the release.
