ONTARIO, Calif. -- In 2002, Co-Op Network set a record annual transaction volume for the 10th consecutive year. According to a news release, the Co-Op's 640 million transactions in 2002 represent a 34 percent increase over the 477 million transactions tallied in 2001.
According to the release, Co-Op added 370 credit unions, more than 7,000 ATMs and two million cardholders to its network in 2002. Co-Op now has 1,165 member credit unions, 15,000 ATMs, an average of 53 million monthly transactions and 12 million cardholders.
Some key 2002 acquisitions included Member Access Illinois, a regional EFT network with 251 credit union members, 560,000 cardholders and 315 ATMs in 15 states, and CU Anytime, a network of 19 credit unions and 134 ATMs throughout New Mexico.
"Co-Op Network now boasts more ATM locations than the largest bank in the U.S., and has survived the consolidation craze to become the only major EFT network that is owned and controlled by credit unions," said Robert Rose, Co-Op chief executive, in the release.
