ONTARIO, Calif. -- Navy Federal Credit Union, the largest credit union in the world with more than 2 million members and $17 billion in assets, has joined the Co-Op Network.
When the addition of Navy Federal, 28 of the top 50 credit unions in the U.S. are members of the Co-Op network. Navy Federal, which operates 96 branches and 262 ATMs, will become fully operational in the network during the second quarter of 2003, according to a news release.
"Co-Op Network's recent growth makes it a good fit for our corporate strategy of providing expanded ATM access to our mobile membership around the world," said Brian McDonnell, president and chief executive of Navy Federal, in the release. "The combination of Co-Op Network credit union focus and unmatched surcharge-free ATM access is the reason Navy Federal joined the network."
Robert Rose, Co-Op's chief executive, noted that a growing number of organizations with worldwide fields of membership, such as Navy Federal, are joining the network. In addition to Vienna, Va.-based Navy Federal, Co-Op membership includes five of the six largest credit unions serving U.S. military personnel.
