FREMONT, Calif. -- Tranax Technologies says that all of its ATMs now available for shipment, including the Nano Cash, are fully compliant with Triple DES guidelines and have an EPP (Encrypted PIN Pad), as well as the ability to load unique master keys remotely.
The Tranax ATMs include upgraded software, according to a news release. The new software is backward compatible and will work with single DES and a 16-digit master key.
According to the release, Tranax's EPP is designed to encrypt a PIN at the point of entry so the PIN never travels out of the EPP in a cleartext format. If the EPP is tampered with, it erases all program codes and data including master keys.
Tranax is using Automatic Unique Key Binding, a process of loading ATM unique keys it developed with transaction processor Core Data Resources. The keys are loaded into the ATM at the factory and activated when the ATM is brought online. (See related story Keeping the keys unique)
Core Data has already implemented Triple DES and Automatic Unique Key Binding and is currently driving Tranax ATMs in both Triple DES and single DES mode. Other processors are working to certify Triple DES and Automatic Unique Key Binding capabilities for Tranax ATMs, according to the release.
All security upgrades are standard on every new ATM and are included in the purchase price. Tranax expects to make upgrade kits for its installed base of ATMs available soon.
