MALTA -- HSBC Bank Malta plc has started to upgrade its ATMs, which will eventually lead to the installation of new machines throughout the bank's ATM network.
According to a story in Malta Media, this project is expected to take approximately a year to complete and will include a new operating system and the replacement of the aging ATMs with modern machines.
Initial improvements resulting from the software upgrade will give HSBC customers the opportunity to use a number of new services, the story said. These include the ability to credit third-party accounts, to make credit card payments and withdraw a higher daily limit.
"We are committed to delivering an outstanding service to our customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week via ATMs," said Chris Hothersall, HSBC chief executive officer. "The fact that HSBC will have over 60 ATMs throughout Malta and Gozo obviously means that installing all the new machines will take some time."
The new ATMs, which HSBC is installing, have several new features; a more modern look with new graphics and a bigger screen, new fast-cash options and the ability for customers to customize their personal identification numbers. HSBC has been cooperating with local officials to ensure that screens in Maltese use the correct Maltese terminology.
Customers are reminded that although payments made by residents to non-resident accounts or credit cards are permitted, these are subject to exchange control regulations as outlined in Central Bank of Malta's various exchange control circulars, the story said.
