LONDON -- NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) says it is the first financial self-service provider to achieve EMV 4.0 global certification for its Integrated Motorized Card Reader-Writer (IMCRW).
According to a news release, the new card reader, which will read chip-based cards, is available on all new NCR ATMs and as an upgrade option on most installed machines.
The card reader will work with all chip cards (both those currently in use and to be issued) as defined by EMVCo (Europay/MasterCard and Visa). It supports all new EMV Level 1 card standards and is designed to be adaptable to support future migration to a contactless smart card.
According to the release, it also supports both the German ZKA French GIECB standards.
Ken Munro, vice president of product management and product marketing at NCR's Financial Solutions Division, called the card reader "another important element in NCR's package of security solutions."
Munro said in the release, "This is another important step in ensuring the integrity of the most used and trusted customer channel."
NCR's NDC software, which can be used with both with both OS/2 and APTRA platforms, received Level 2 approval from EMVCo in March. (See related story NCR ATM software receives EMV approval)
