NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- Diebold EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) is partnering with 3SI Security Systems, a provider of staining systems, to offer cash protection facilities across its line of ATMs.
According to a news release, the announcement is one of a series of strategic relationships being formed by Diebold to offer a full range of complementary services to customers across the EMEA region.
Under the agreement, in EMEA Diebold will sell, service and maintain the Scorpion Cassette Protection System, a security solution from 3SI which sprays indelible ink onto cash in ATM cassettes if a theft is attempted. The product also protects cash during service activities, such as the filling of cassettes and transport.

Scorpion will be available across the entire Diebold ATM line, including the new Opteva series, according to the release.
Diebold already performs upgrades on third-party cassettes as part of its multi-vendor approach, but this is the first time 3SI Security Systems has formed a relationship with an ATM provider to market and sell the product as part of a complete package.
The Scorpion Cassette Protection System includes a unique DNA tagging security system, Cyphermark, which enables marked items to be identified through DNA testing, providing proof of ownership or source and enabling the detection of fraud and theft. Cash stained by Cyphermark can be traced back to the crime scene and its original owner or insurer, according to the release.
Denis Gaultier, vice president of service operations Diebold EMEA said in the release, "Diebold has worked with 3SI Security Systems, formerly named ICI Security Systems, for a number of years developing custom-built solutions for our clients. Changing crime patterns that have increased demand for security solutions, such as ink and smoke staining technologies, makes this a natural progression in our relationship."
3SI Security Systems, established in the United States in 1970 and in Europe in 1982, protects cash using proprietary electronic smoke and ink technologies in ATMs, safes and other applications. Currently, 86 of the top 100 U.S. banks and 24 of the top 50 European banks use 3SI security solutions, according to the release.
