ST LOUIS, Mo. - JBM Electronics, a developer of financial transaction routers, has added a a new product called the Modem Termination Card to its Gateway product line. Designed for the ATM and point-of-sale markets, the card can be used to convert dial-up only devices to IP.
According to the release, customers using a JBM Gateway with a modem termination card can eliminate dial-up circuits and take advantage of existing LAN/WAN networks already deployed in many store locations. Besides the cost savings, the Modem Termination Card decreases transaction times by as much as 50 percent.

The Modem Termination card connects to any standards based V.90 or V.92 Async modem on a POS device. The card then provides a dial tone to simulate a carrier's central office allowing the Gateway to terminate the call. Once a POS device initiates a call, the Gateway makes a connection, communicates with that device's protocol (Visa, Poll-Select or other Async protocols), converts the protocol to TCP/IP, and routes the transaction to a pre-assigned IP address.
According to the release, JBM's Gateways are small Linux-based Transaction Access Routers and offer a range of features such as dial back-up and fail-over capabilities for high volume ATMs or POS terminals, dial-up termination and conversion to IP for remote POS devices, and a wide range of networking interfaces including Ethernet, serial or 56K CSU/DSU supporting Frame Relay, PPP, or X.25.
