NEW ORLEANS-A new wireless communications option for connecting ATMs was unveiled by Triton at BAI's Retail Delivery Conference & Expo 2003.
According to a news release, Triton President Brian Kett invited attendees to come to booth #1557 for a live demo of the company's wireless machines.
The advantages of wireless are no longer limited to mobile applications," Kett said, in the release (See related story "ATMs without wires"). With monthly costs running below those for dial-up, transaction times comparable to leased lines and real-time monitoring capabilities, wireless ATM applications make sense for any operator.
"With Triton's wireless communication option, ATM owners do not have to pay an additional fee for the installation of a dedicated phone line," Kett said. "Triton's wireless option can be utilized with both our new FT5000 through-the-wall and RL5000 lobby Windows Intel XScale PC platform ATMs that will be on display in our BAI booth."
Triton's wireless option uses 1XRTT technology, which is a 100-percent-digital data service provided by wireless carriers that use code division multiple access (CDMA) technology. It is available anywhere regular cellular service on CDMA technology exists, including more than 95 percent of the metropolitan U.S.
According to the release, 1X replaces CDPD (cellular digital packet data) radio modems, which the wireless carriers are retiring. The new wireless option will be available first on Triton's FT5000 and RL5000.
