SOUTH HACKENSACK, NJ - Just in time for the holiday season when the number of consumers using ATMs increases, NexTran Industries, Inc. has introduced its ComNet ATM security camera, which is designed to increase consumer safety in the vicinity of ATMs.
The camera, which can be added to any of the company's ComNet 1000 or 4000 ATM models, provides a digital color photograph of the ATM user and the vicinity in front of the ATM.
The camera takes a 240-by-200 pixel digital photo when the consumer enters his PIN. The image file is then attached to the journal record of each ATM transaction.
"The ComNet security camera is designed to be an affordable, convenient way for ATM owners to increase security around their terminals," said Tony Park, senior vice president of NexTran, in a news release.
The use of the ComNet security camera is made possible because of the ComNet ATM's PC-based operating system, Park said. "Older ATMs that use circuit-based operating systems cannot accommodate a solution like this."
Michael Choi, owner of Food Expo in New York City, recently installed a NexTran ComNet 1000 with the ComNet security camera. Choi believes that linking the image with the transaction journal entry provides an additional layer of safety.
In addition to enhanced security, Choi said that installing a ComNet security camera will provide additional data in the case of chargeback claims. With an image of the person who performed the disputed transaction linked to the transaction record, it is easier to investigate chargebacks.
"If it's not the customer whose card was used, we have a picture of the crook," Choi said.
The ComNet security camera is offered to owners of ComNet ATMs for $250. Park said that the device may be added to ComNet 2000 and 3000 models if demand warrants.
