DUBLIN, Ireland - €400m (U.S. $496 million) has been dispensed through Bank of Ireland's (BoI) retail ATM network since its launch in February 2003.
According to a report in the Irish Examiner, 382 new machines were installed during the 10-month rollout. Some 13 percent of all Bank of Ireland ATM transactions now come through the retail network.
Ger Moffatt, Bank of Ireland's head of ATMs, told the Examiner, "This investment in our ATM network has made a real lifestyle difference to both urban and rural communities."
Moffatt added, "On completion of the program, we will be providing over 50 percent of the total ATM facilities in the country."
Wincor Nixdorf is managing the bank's retail network, which will eventually include some 500 machines.
Under an agreement with the countrywide independent retail group Musgrave SuperValu-Centra, the Bank of Ireland will be the preferred provider of ATMs at up to 250 locations.
With the addition of the retail locations, Bank of Ireland's ATM network will grow from 546 to 1,046 machines, which will make it the country's number one ATM provider. (See related story Wincor Nixdorf to manage Bank of Ireland's off-site network)
