SAO PAULO, Brazil - NCR Corporation (NYSE:NCR) has opened an ATM manufacturing and engineering facility in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
According to a news release, ATMs manufactured in Sao Paulo will be customized to meet Brazilian needs, using local NCR engineering capability. Brazilian component suppliers and manufacturers will provide ATM components, consistent with NCR's local sourcing strategy.
The Sao Paulo manufacturing plant is NCR's fifth ATM factory worldwide, with an annual capacity of up to 7,000 units. NCR's other manufacturing plants are in Dundee, Scotland; Waterloo, Canada; Beijing; and Pondicherry, India.
NCR will initially employ between 75 and 100 staff at the Sao Paulo facility, but it is anticipated the number will increase as the market continues to grow.
"We have targeted Brazil as a growth market for our self-service solutions," said Keith Taylor, senior vice president of NCR's Financial Solutions Division, in the release. "We believe concentrating our local manufacturing operations in Brazil will enable us to translate our customers' needs into real solutions more rapidly."
NCR also announced an agreement with Tecnologia Bancária S.A. (TecBan), a services and switching company that runs the Banco24Horas ATM network in Brazil. NCR will supply the company with the new NCR Personas 67 model, manufactured at the new plant.
According to the release, the Personas 67 has a bar-code reader and a safe manufactured to meet strict Brazilian security requirements. It has a 15-inch color screen and can provide targeted messaging through NCR's APTRA software platform.
