LAKELAND, Fla. - Publix Super Markets, which has been one of the nation's largest ATM owners to resist charging convenience fees, will begin charging a $1 fee to all customers using its ATMs whose banks are not a member of its Presto network.
Publix has ATMs at 800 supermarkets in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
The ATM charge will become effective May 1 in Tennessee and June 21 companywide, according to a report in the Charleston (S.C.) Post and Courier.
Earlier this month, RBC Centura Bank, a subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Canada, inked an agreement with Publix that provides its customers with free access to Publix's Presto ATMs. (See related story RBC Centura cardholders get free access to Publix ATMs)
Publix also signed an agreement with the Co-Op Network to offer Co-Op cardholders surcharge-free access to its ATMs. (See related story Publix ATMs now part of Co-Op Network)
Publix offers its customers up to $100 cash back at checkout stations for no added charge.
