DUBLIN - Bank of Ireland has been sued by Hanco ATM International, an Ireland-based independent ATM operator which alleges that the bank reneged on an ATM contract worth E15 million (U.S. $18.4 million).
According to a report in Business World, Hanco claims it had a deal to install and operate 500 off-site ATMs for the bank. The contract was part of an ATM expansion program which saw all the bank's machines rebranded as "365 Cash," with ATMs installed in 250 shops run by the SuperValu and Centra grocery chains.
The deal was first announced in July; a Bank of Ireland spokesperson told ATMmarketplace in January that the bank no longer had a relationship with Hanco. (See related stories Bank of Ireland in retail ATM rollout and Bank of Ireland to roll out supermarket ATMs)

A representative of Hanco's Irish market declined to comment on why the contract was aborted, according to a report in Business World. He said that the matter was "covered by legal action and due before the court."
