Canadian judge reduces ATM card skimmer's sentence

Calgary Sun.com: Despite his indignation at the light sentences handed members of a Romanian card skimming gang, a Calgary, Alberta appeal judge on Aug. 24 nearly halved the term of minor player Alina Onose. Justice Pat Sullivan reduced the Toronto woman's conditional sentence from 22 to 12 months. Onose was arrested with eight others after Calgary police received a tip a Romanian crime group based in Ontario was moving west. The group used skimming devices and pinhole cameras to forge bank cards and bilk more than $38,000 (U.S. $29,154) out of ATMs during a five-day period last September.
