Pa. to distribute child support payments via ATM/debit cards

Patriot-News: Pennsylvania is launching a pilot program that will allow parents to access child-support payments through ATM/debit cards. Nearly 6,300 parents in Dauphin County are to be enrolled in the program, which officials plan to expand statewide. The change is expected to save the state $15 million over five years, officials said. It could also mean savings for the 40 percent of support recipients in Pennsylvania without bank accounts, and eliminate the possibility of lost checks. Parents with bank accounts can opt to have payments directly deposited. There will be a 95-cent transaction fee to access funds at ATMs.
