Committee informed of 'outrageous' ATM fees in Ireland

Ireland On-Line: Unsuspecting consumers are reportedly being charged "outrageous" fees for using bank machines installed in shops, pubs, cinemas and petrol stations throughout Ireland.

Reports this morning said the financial services regulator had informed the Oireachtas Finance Committee that the charges levied for using these machines were up to 10 times more than those levied for using standard ATMs.

Most consumers who use the new independent ATMs do not realize that they pay between €1 (U.S. $1.33) and €2.50 (U.S. $3.32) every time they withdraw money from the machines.
