AUSTIN, Texas - Axalto, which provides microprocessor cards, and Adobe Systems Inc. have teamed to provide non-repudiative signatures, encryption and access controls in document publishing tools.
According to a news release, the solution is available on Axalto's Cyberflex Access smart card products and works with Adobe Acrobat version 6.0 and above.
Customers using Axalto smart cards are able to electronically sign, encrypt and secure access to documents using portable credentials they carry on their smart card badges. Adobe Acrobat automatically detects available credentials on the Axalto cards.
A non-repudiative, read-only visual mark, which represents the smart card owner's digital signature, can quickly be inserted into an Adobe PDF file. The viewable file is then transmitted via e-mail to other relevant parties for subsequent review or stored for future reference.
"Government regulations like HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley are increasingly requiring better protection for confidentiality, privacy of information and records of document workflow," said Francois Lasnier, Axalto's vice-president of finance, public sector, access and ID in North America. "Moreover, corporate governance provisions and best practice, like those mentioned in the Tabaksblat or the U.K. Combined Code in Europe and the national codes in Asia, will clearly benefit from an easy-to-use secure document management system. Our goal in working closely with Adobe was to deliver clearly better tools to achieve these requirements."
