The Charlotte Observer: Banks in the Carolinas and throughout the United States are installing state-of-the-art ATMs, spurred by regulatory changes, new technology and a simple desire for flashier machines.
These ATMs have the colorful look of the Web, touchscreens, more languages and personalization options that remember customers' fast-cash and other preferences. Many banks also are experimenting with technology that lets customers deposit checks and cash without an envelope.
These Internet-connected ATMs allow banks to make their machines look more like online banking Web sites and more easily make changes and updates to their machines.
ATMs with small screens, poor graphics and confusing buttons are on their way out, said Kirk Lindsey, Bank of America Corp.'s ATM product management executive.
