WASHINGTON - In the wake of recent natural disasters, the American Bankers Association, in alliance with the state bankers associations, has appointed a Joint Preparedness Task Force.
"Bankers have been at the forefront of efforts to repair, rebuild and restore the Gulf Coast region," said ABA chairman Harris Simmons in a news release. "As with every emergency, the lessons learned are many. This task force will serve to share those lessons so the banking industry is even better prepared to protect the financial assets of our customers, speed relief when necessary and help in the rebuilding and recovery."
Plans for the task force include investigating and documenting best practices exhibited by banks in the aftermath of recent hurricanes as well as other emergencies. Its goal is to produce materials that will help bankers as they review and update their disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
The group also will outline a coordinated emergency plan for ABA and state associations.
