DENVER - First Data Corp. announced last week that David P. Bailis has been appointed to oversee the company's Card Issuing Services unit. According to a news release, strategic review of First Data's U.S. card-issuing business continues.
David will serve as president of Card Issuing and executive vice president, reporting directly to Ric Duques, First Data's new chief executive. (Read also, First Data could be heading for a split.)
Bailis was an executive vice president at First Data from 1989 to 2001, serving in multiple leadership roles, including head of the company's card-issuing business, from 1998 to 2001. Most recently, Bailis ran his own business consultancy firm.
"David's immediate focus will be on working closely with me to ensure a thorough, strategic and expedient review of the U.S. Card Services business," Duques said. "In addition, David will actively engage clients and ensure that we remain focused on serving their needs. Although the future of Card is being reviewed, there is an inherent value in assigning a strong leader to drive the effort to find the right approach to this business."
