NEWPORT-ON-TAY, Scotland -- In a bid to spread messages about steps people can take to reduce the risk of robbery, the United Kingdom's Thames Valley Police department is running an advertising campaign through ATM:ad on ATMs across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire to promote its "Safer Streets" campaign.

According to a news release, the campaign will run through Jan. 22 on ATMs at 44 locations, including supermarkets, post offices, shopping centers, petrol stations, convenience stores and a hospital.
The 10-second trailer flashes the message "Getting cash out in public? Bring a mate to the ATM and don't flash your cash." During the in-transaction sequence, the message reads, "Before you go out, plan your way home, talking on your mobile will not keep you safe. If out alone, use public transport or get a taxi."
"This is a really innovative way to get a message about staying safe to young people who go out on the town in Thames Valley," said inspector Neil Coolman.
